This is a combination of two separate projects, both with similar conditions, and both in SW Florida. The tarpon were shot in mucky visibility that never exceeded 1 foot. While snorkeling, a pelican bit off my camera’s dome shield, and a 5.5’ tarpon grabbed it and swam away (it only had to get a few inches away before I lost sight ot it!) - true story. For the other shots, I was shooting for the state of Florida o give them photographic evidence of the diversity of life in Biscayne Bay. Finding the abundant life was easy, but photographing it in 2-4’ visibility was a major challenge. For both assignments, I used the awesome Tokina 10-17mm fisheye lens (almost always my lens of choice in any condition). This let me get extremely close to the grasses and sponge (close, as in, 3” or less) to get detail in the funky water. Both very challenging shoots, indeed!
