India

India is a very different place with a very different culture.  Poverty beyond poverty abounds, but a positive outlook seems to prevail, perhaps because of the changing times, perhaps its just in their nature, or perhaps its because they know the beauty just below the surface of the water.  The last suggestion is likely not the case, but that is why I travelled to the other side of the Earth.  I knew the reefs would be good, but I was actually there for a specific photo target.  A 3-ton target.

Quickly approaching the last of his golden years, the world’s only ocean-swimming elephant is slowing down.  You can see it in his eyes, his skin, his joints; he’s lived a long, hard life as a logger, and is now spending his final years with a bit less stress.  Keep in mind, there likely hasn’t been a wild Indian elephant in our lifetime (barring those in small sanctuaries), but this one has it better than most.

I have lots more to write on this expedition, but I’ll have to do that on my next website update, as I’m out of time.  More later . . .
