Papua New Guinea - Kimbe Region

So the plan was to take a year off running AquaExposure to go somewhere to shoot every day.  I was looking at several places in Indonesia, Philippines, PNG, and all the other Indo-Pacific hotspots.  Was just going to live on the cheap, grab a rental place with shore diving, maybe buy a little outboard boat, befriend a local dive shop; something like that.  But then I was in the Peter Hughes office discussing Digital Dancer dates, and what started as a simple mention of moving out to diving heaven turned into a discussion about “working” - something that I thought I was finished with.  But hey, PNG is the best diving in the world, and why blow all my “starving artist photographer” savings on a rental house and air fills, when I could get paid for diving several times a day doing what I had officially retired from - Captaining a liveaboard.  So here I am, about as far away from civilization as you can get on this Earth, diving several times a day in the an underwater photographer’s paradise!  Yeah, captaining here is a world apart from back in the Caribbean - culturally, environmentally, weatherly (is that a word?), and in every other way 1000x more challenging, but the diving is 1000x more gooder than where I used to operate.  So here I am, surrounded by active volcanoes, malaria, treacherous hull-ripping reefs, cannibals (naw, not in the past few decades, and I’m too skinny anyway), and the bane of my existence - the saber-tooth blenny, but its all the trade-off for reefs beyond imagine, critters so weird and rare that they’ve never been classified, and basically, the best diving and photography in the world.  During the months of Jan/Feb 2010, I won’t be diving much, but after Mar 2010, I’ll have a gallery posted of the south coast of Rabaul, where its mostly muck diving and WWII wrecks.  Do I have more?  Thousands.  This is just a quick selection of some of my favorites from Sept-Dec 2009.  Can’t wait to show you more!  Can’t wait to shoot more!!!
