What you know
The dive was magnificent. The images, much less so.
There is that feeling we all know. We surface after forty extraordinary minutes. We crossed paths with a manta ray, a school of barracudas, or simply a coral bottom that the light was passing through in a way we had never seen before.
"We plug in the memory card. And there, the colours have disappeared. The water is green. The bottom looks grey. The manta ray looks like a shadow on a foggy background."
It is not a matter of equipment. It is not a matter of talent. It is a matter of understanding how light behaves underwater, and learning to work with it.
Adding a flash solves a small part of the problem and creates others: backscatter from suspended particles, artificial light that flattens everything it touches, animal behaviour that changes as soon as you approach with imposing equipment.
Natural light, when you know how to read it, is already there. Sufficient. Often more beautiful than anything you could add.
Why without flash: what it really changes
No flash
Flash modifies animal behaviour, produces backscatter on suspended particles, and flattens textures. The AquaExposure method works exclusively with natural light and digital colour restoration. It is sufficient. It is more ethical.
No minimum equipment required
You dive with a GoPro 12? Perfect. An iPhone in a housing? Excellent. A Sony compact? Ideal. The course is built for the equipment you already have, not for what you should buy.

There is something a little particular about the journey that leads to creating AquaExposure.
A trainer by profession first, in a completely different field: table arts, pastry, apprenticeship. Two thousand apprentices supported. A conviction built in the field that transmission always happens through observation and practice, never through manuals alone.
Then diving, the MSDT instructor, years spent teaching in Greece, Cyprus, the Seychelles, the Maldives. And in those waters, a question that kept coming back: how to bring back something of what you see down there, without invasive equipment, without disturbing what you came to find?
AquaExposure was born from that question. Not from a photography certification. From real practice, documented mistakes, and a clear bias: natural light is an instrument, not a deficiency.

Do I need to be a photographer or have computer skills?
Absolutely not. The course starts from zero on every aspect: camera settings, post-production, editing software. Some students had never opened Lightroom before starting. Some did not know what white balance is. The course is designed for that.
What equipment do I need?
Any equipment: GoPro, Insta360, smartphone in housing, waterproof compact, mirrorless, DSLR. The course adapts to the equipment you already have. No minimum equipment required, no flash needed. That is precisely the subject of the course.
Do I need a particular dive level?
You must know how to dive independently, with any certification. AquaExposure does not teach diving. What we teach is what you do with your camera once you are comfortable in the water.
How does the course work in practice?
Entirely online, at your own pace, with no deadline. Modules in video, audio, text and slides. You revisit them between two dives, apply in the water, come back to refine. Some students progress in a few intensive weeks, others spread over several months. Both approaches work very well.
