DiveVolk and the vivo X Fold6: The first foldable smartphone that can be submerged.
When I first saw my first foldable smartphones, the question that came to mind wasn't about the screen or the price. I wondered how they would be taken underwater. A folding screen, a hinge, two bodies sliding against each other – it doesn't exactly sound like something you'd want to seal in a waterproof case and take fifteen meters deep.
DiveVolk has just answered this question, and quite quickly, thank you.
What's just been released
The director Li Zitao filmed and released an underwater film at the Great Blue Hole in Belize using a vivo X Fold6, housed in a DiveVolk SeaTouch 4 Max Platinum V2 enclosure. This is currently the only DiveVolk enclosure that is compatible with a foldable smartphone.
The film showcases an entry by boat, reef fish, gorgonian corals, a green sea turtle feeding, a lionfish, a nurse shark, a eagle ray, a freediving sequence in shallow water, and the Blue Hole itself, all rendered in full resolution on the X Fold6. The Platinum V2 itself is not new, it was launched in November 2025 with several professional-grade improvements. What's new is its compatibility with a foldable format, which wasn't listed on the official specifications consulted the previous week.
Why this is good news, with a caveat.
This signals good news for the future. If DiveVolk manages to integrate a foldable format into a range of cases already designed for standard phone bodies, the question is no longer whether foldables will become waterproof, but when other brands will follow suit.
It's important to note that this film remains a personal project by Li Zitao, where DiveVolk provided the imaging system. This is not an independent test conducted by a third party unrelated to the brand. Practical tests are planned for very soon, and only then will we know if the seal around the hinge truly holds up over time, if the tactile operation remains comfortable once the housing is closed, and whether the foldable format provides a real framing benefit underwater or just a novelty effect.
To position the Platinum V2 within the product range, we had already tested the different versions of the SeaTouch 4 on other smartphones: the Max, the Max Plus, and the standard Platinum, in our dedicated comparison. The design logic remains the same, modular, with an internal adapter specific to each phone.
Favorable, but this needs to be confirmed by an independent field test. This is the first time a foldable smartphone has become truly usable for diving, and it changes the questions we ask ourselves about these phones. If you already own a vivo X Fold6, this topic is worth following closely. If you are still hesitant about switching to a foldable phone for underwater photography, or if you are interested in the question of choosing between landscape or portrait format underwater, be patient and wait for the first field reports to confirm what Li Zitao's demonstration suggests.
