Jackery Explorer 300: Mobile power for underwater photographers

When roads lead away from urban centers, along wild coastlines, or to remote launch sites, power becomes a major constraint for underwater photographers. Between the salt that dries on the equipment and the careful preparation of housings for the next session, the need to recharge flashes, cameras, and drones requires a more robust solution than a simple battery pack. It is in this context of terrestrial nomadism, where the vehicle's trunk replaces the living room outlet, that the Jackery Explorer 300 portable power station finds its place. It offers a welcome independence for those who prefer camping on a deserted beach to the comfort of a hotel room, transforming each stop into a functional logistical base.

This 293.8 Wh capacity not only stores electricity, but it also defines the scope of your freedom. In practice, this means you can recharge your underwater light batteries after each night dive without worrying about draining the starting battery of your vehicle. The NMC lithium-ion chemistry allows for significant weight savings, a crucial advantage when diving equipment is already heavy in the bag. This power station therefore acts as a buffer, capable of handling the peak power demands of a diver passionate about macro photography who requires multiple lights.

The importance of a pure sine wave should not be underestimated. Many modern electronic devices do not function well with the modified waves produced by lower-quality inverters. The 60W USB-C port is particularly useful because it allows you to directly charge most ultra-portable computers without using their bulky power adapters. This frees up the AC outlet for dedicated battery chargers, such as those for drones or underwater flashes that do not yet have direct USB charging capabilities.

The use of solar panels transforms the expedition experience. By placing a panel on the roof of the vehicle while you are underwater, you create a virtuous cycle of production and consumption. The MPPT regulator integrated into the Explorer 300 optimizes the efficiency of solar charging, even in slightly cloudy conditions. This provides an extra layer of security for divers venturing into areas where access to the electrical grid is unavailable. Knowing that you can have a fully charged battery after a morning of diving simply thanks to sunlight provides a sense of peace that is essential for artistic creation in natural environments.

Durability is a crucial factor for equipment intended to be used near water. While the unit is not waterproof, its casing is robust, and the ports are well-arranged to prevent dust accumulation. The fixed handle provides a very secure grip, even with gloves or wet hands. The backlit screen is readable in bright sunlight, allowing you to quickly check whether the solar charging is effective or whether the power consumption of a connected device is excessive. This intuitive interface reduces the stress associated with power management, allowing you to focus more on taking photos.

Regulations regarding lithium batteries are extremely strict due to fire safety concerns. It is essential to always verify the applicable rules with your airline and local authorities at the time of departure, as these standards can change. Never assume that the acceptance of a high-capacity battery on an airplane is guaranteed, even if you have obtained prior authorization in the past. From a technical standpoint, the NMC lithium-ion chemistry offers excellent energy density but has a shorter cycle life than LiFePO4 batteries. Finally, the 300 W power output limits its use to electronic devices, excluding any high-power household appliances.
