In the community of cave and technical diving enthusiasts, where respect for the environment goes hand in hand with uncompromising performance requirements, the durability of equipment is a key factor for the future. The British manufacturer Fourth Element offers the Tech Fin Military, a technically adjustable fin molded from recycled natural rubber. We will examine its performance in detail to help you make an informed decision.

This detailed evaluation report is based on our documentary analysis conducted on August 6, 2026. Our ranking system maintains its neutrality, and no affiliated links are active on our website.

Our Evaluation Method

To analyze the performance of this environmentally friendly technical model in a standardized way, we evaluate it based on five criteria with equal weighting. The Fourth Element Tech Fin Military is a top-of-the-line adjustable fin, highly regarded by military and exploration divers. Its wide and generous open heel design perfectly accommodates the thick boots of drysuits.

Its short and heavy profile of 1200g greatly facilitates horizontal stabilization in the narrow spaces of caves. It is designed for advanced divers who have mastered technical diving techniques.

Sails and Propulsion (P2: 4.75 / 5)

The fin incorporates hydrodynamic vents that reduce strain during the leg recovery motion underwater. This very rigid profile allows for exceptional "frog kick" propulsion with instantaneous responsiveness.

Imagine a civil engineer choosing to anchor the pillars of a suspension bridge using massive blocks of recycled concrete. Despite the recycling required, these blocks offer absolute structural stability against the current without wasting natural resources. This is the principle behind this molded sail made from recycled rubber, which combines negative buoyancy for trim and an environmentally friendly approach. The back kick and helicopter styles are excellent.

Fit and Comfort (Score: 4.5 / 5)

The ergonomic rubber bootie wraps the foot without any painful pressure points on the diver's instep. The standard stainless steel spring straps ensure extremely quick donning.

Muscle fatigue can occur quickly if the diver uses a traditional recreational flutter kick due to the weight of the structure. On the other hand, thermal comfort in cold water is exceptional, earning the maximum score for our "protection" criterion.

Materials and Buoyancy (P4: 4.5 / 5)

The use of high-performance recycled natural rubber ensures excellent mechanical resistance to twisting. The blade has a significant negative buoyancy in seawater, which helps to weigh down the lower limbs.

These high-end components easily withstand the effects of salt and ultraviolet radiation. The absence of plastic in both the product's construction and its packaging makes it an exemplary example of environmental preservation.

Robustness (P5: 5/5)

The single-piece structure made of recycled vulcanized rubber is virtually indestructible against cuts from rocks and the rusted metal sheets found on shipwrecks. It achieves the maximum robustness rating in our comparison test.

The stainless steel spring straps in this series eliminate any risk of strap breakage during rigging on the deck. The wide sole ensures perfect grip on wet and slippery surfaces.
