Marelux updates its double flip holder for macro camera housings.

Marelux releases a new version of its Double Flip Holder- featuring hydraulic dampening. Discover how this macro accessory can improve your diving experience.

Marelux Updates Its Double Flip Holder for Macro Domes

The best time to change macro domes is almost always the worst time to unscrew anything underwater. A tiny nudibranch appears while you're photographing a larger fish, and you need to switch lenses in seconds without losing sight of your subject or dropping a piece of equipment into the sand. This type of accessory solves that exact problem.

A Lens Holder Designed for Quick Changes

The Double Flip Holder from Marelux allows you to attach two macro domes to the same arm, in front of the camera housing's port, and rotate them into or out of position with a simple gesture. The innovation in this version lies in its hydraulic damping system: a chamber filled with lubricant that ensures smooth rotation without jerks or locking, even after thousands of uses.

Made from anodized aluminum alloy, the lens holder is designed so that each dome retracts behind the port when folded away, out of the path of the strobes. Its 67mm thread makes it compatible with Marelux's Macroview MV-15, MV-10, and MV-5 macro lenses, as well as the MacroView 60.

Price: Approximately €260, converted from $300, which is the official price on the manufacturer's website.

I've seen more than one student miss a great opportunity because the time it took to change lenses meant the subject had already disappeared into a crevice. A well-made flip lens holder doesn't replace the eye or patience, but it eliminates a mechanical friction that, underwater, often costs more than the price of the accessory itself. It's an investment that makes sense for those who regularly practice macro photography, less so for those who occasionally shoot wide-angle with a backup macro port at the bottom of their bag.

What remains true whether you use a flip lens holder or not is that finding the right subject before using any lens is the skill that truly makes a difference in a macro image.

Questions about the Journal

What is the purpose of the Marelux Double Flip Holder?

It is a port adapter that allows you to swing one or two macro close-up lenses in front of the dome port, and then retract them behind it when they are no longer needed, without having to unscrew them underwater.

What are the new features in this version?

A hydraulic damping system that makes tilting smoother and more stable- without any sagging of the housing once it is in position- even after repeated use.

With which camera housings is this port adapter compatible?

The Marelux Macroview MV-15, MV-10, and MV-5, as well as the MacroView 60 are all suitable options. The 67mm thread size also makes it compatible with other macro lenses that use the same standard.

What is the price of the Marelux Double Flip Holder?

Approximately €260 (converted from $300, the official price listed on the Marelux website). The actual all-inclusive price charged by European retailers may vary.
