Best dive computer for type dorsal (back-inflate) in 2026

Comment nous évaluons le matériel et notre doctrine

Cadre d évaluation technique : Grid O1-O8 (Dive Computers). Chaque critère est noté de 0 à 5, et le score global est calculé selon une moyenne pondérée rigoureuse.

O1 : Algorithm & decompression20%

We evaluate the mathematical decompression model (such as the widely used Bühlmann ZH-L16C). A good algorithm must be transparent, allow fine gradient factor customization, and suggest safety stops adapted to real diving conditions.

O2 : Air & multi-gas20%

This criterion measures the computer's capacity to manage multiple gas mixes (Nitrox and Trimix) underwater. For advanced technical profiles or rebreather (CCR) divers, smooth gas switching in immersion is crucial to prevent errors.

O3 : Screen & ergonomics15%

Under water, every second counts. We test screen readability in dark or turbid waters, as well as button or touchscreen ergonomics, which must remain fully usable with thick diving gloves.

O4 : Autonomy & power supply15%

Nothing is more frustrating than a battery dying before a dive. We compare the durability of rechargeable batteries versus traditional ones (like AA), highly practical to replace quickly on remote trips.

O5 : Connectivity & logbook10%

We analyze the ease of transferring dive logs to the brand's mobile app. A reliable Bluetooth connection and a clear interface make it simple to monitor dive stats over the seasons.

O6 : Compass & instruments5%

This checks the accuracy of the integrated 3D digital compass. Tilt compensation is essential underwater to navigate precisely without having to hold the computer perfectly level in front of you.

O7 : Durability & max depth10%

Diving gear undergoes heavy constraints. We evaluate the assembly quality of the casing (steel, titanium, or dense polymers) and shock resistance on the boat, as well as the maximum operating depth.

O8 : Price & customer support5%

A good investment should last. We judge the overall value for money and the manufacturer's after-sales service reputation for replacement parts or periodic maintenance.

Questions fréquentes

Why do back-inflate BCDs push divers forward at the surface?▼

Because all buoyancy sits behind you, lifting the rear torso. Simply lean back against the cylinder to float in relaxed comfort.

Can beginners start diving with a back-inflate BCD?▼

Yes, many new divers start directly on back-inflation, though it takes a couple of dives to master the relaxed surface posture.

Why do underwater photographers prefer back-inflate BCDs?▼

Because a clear chest lets you hold camera housings close without snagging, while stable horizontal trim enables motionless hovering.

What is the difference between a back-inflate BCD and a technical wing?▼

A back-inflate BCD features integrated padding, cummerbund, and cargo pockets. A wing uses a rigid metal plate and minimalist webbing harness.

How do you vent air from a back-inflate wing underwater?▼

The lower rear dump valve vents air instantly while swimming horizontally without requiring you to stand upright.

Are weight pockets integrated on back-inflate models?▼

Yes, virtually all modern recreational back-inflate BCDs include ditchable weight pockets up front and rear trim pockets.
