## Detailed Analysis
Algorithm & Decompression Stops (O1: 3.9/5)
The SEAC Guru dive computer incorporates the Bühlmann ZHL-16C decompression algorithm, a proprietary variant known for its robustness and reliability. Instead of offering adjustable Gradient Factors, this model provides the user with the option to configure six levels of conservatism. This approach is particularly safe. It allows you to personalize your dive profile based on perceived fatigue, immersion conditions, or the difficulty of the series of dives. This is a very, very effective way to adapt your safety profile without getting lost in complex settings. The computer is not a substitute for training, it is an auxiliary device that must be understood and mastered. This score of 3.9/5 reflects a high level of algorithmic reliability, with appreciable flexibility for the experienced diver.
Air & Multi-Gas (O2: 2.2/5)The SEAC Guru is designed for managing air and Nitrox gas mixtures. It allows you to manage two different gases, with oxygen percentages ranging from 21% to 99%. This capacity is sufficient for the vast majority of recreational dives and for some lighter technical dives requiring a decompression gas. The device offers a gas switching function, which is an advantage for more complex dive profiles. However, it's important to note that it does not support Trimix or CCR (Closed Circuit Rebreather) management, limiting its use to specific applications. It features wireless air integration, which provides undeniable convenience for reading tank pressure. The score of 2.2/5 reflects a standard gas management system that is effective within its segment but limited for the deepest explorations or advanced technical dives.
Screen & Ergonomics (O3: 3.3/5)SEAC has managed to fit an 80x80 pixel graphic LCD screen into a housing the size of a wristwatch. The intensity of the "SuperBright" LED backlight is manually adjustable, allowing it to adapt to all visibility conditions, from dark waters to sunny days. The interface, controlled by four buttons, provides intuitive access to settings. The stainless steel bezel adds a touch of robustness and elegance. Due to its watch format, the display size is inherently smaller. This may be a factor to consider for divers with vision problems or those who prefer a larger screen for quickly reading essential information. The score of 3.3/5 highlights good brightness and a well-designed interface, but acknowledges the limitation imposed by the screen size.
Battery Life (O4: 4.0/5)The SEAC Guru eliminates the limitations associated with battery changes thanks to its rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It recharges in 3 to 5 hours via the included USB cable, a convenient feature for travel and frequent use. The battery life reaches up to 25 hours in continuous dive mode, or 2 to 3 months when used as a regular watch. This is a very solid performance that provides peace of mind for cruises or extended diving sessions. However, it is crucial to note that exposure to extremely cold water (below 3°C) can negatively affect the battery voltage and reduce its operating time. This information is essential for divers in cold waters. The score of 4.0/5 reflects a very comfortable battery life and a modern, practical power solution.
Connectivity & App (Score: 3.0/5)Although the SEAC Guru is a high-end computer, data transfer does not occur via Bluetooth. The included USB cable is the only way to download dive logs to the DiveLogger software and to keep the firmware up to date. Updates can be installed by the user, which is an advantage for maintenance. The lack of Bluetooth connectivity to smartphones may be seen as a disadvantage by some users who are accustomed to automatic synchronization. However, a wired connection often offers greater stability and security for critical data transfers. The score of 3.0/5 reflects functional and reliable connectivity, but it does not meet everyone's expectations in terms of modernity and ease of mobile use.
Compass & Instruments (O6: 5.0/5)The SEAC Guru's undeniable strength lies in its digital 3D compass with tilt compensation, offering remarkable precision and ease of use for underwater navigation. Beyond the Scuba, Gauge, and Freediving modes, it functions as a true "outdoor" watch. It includes an altimeter, barometer, weather forecasts, lunar phases, and fitness features (pedometer, calorie counter). The freediving mode is particularly comprehensive, providing time, depth, descent rate, and ascent rate. This wealth of instrumentation makes the Guru a versatile tool, equally useful underwater and on land. The perfect score of 5.0/5 is well-deserved for this suite of features that far exceeds the expectations of a simple dive computer.
Robustness & Depth (O7: 4.1/5)The build quality of the SEAC Guru is exemplary. Its high-strength technopolymer casing is surrounded by a stainless steel ring and protected by mineral glass. These premium materials guarantee durability and resistance to impacts and scratches. The computer is designed to withstand a maximum depth of 150 meters, a certification that attests to its reliability for even the most demanding dives. Robustness is a fundamental criterion for diving equipment, and the Guru delivers with meticulous finishes and proven materials. The score of 4.1/5 highlights a solid design and the ability to withstand the rigors of the underwater environment.
Price & Customer Service (8: 3.6/5)Typically priced around €600 - €680 depending on the country, the price of the SEAC Guru reflects its advanced features. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery, wireless air integration, and 3D compass are elements that justify this significant investment. The observed price of approximately €683 positions this computer as a relevant choice for a multi-function dive watch. Regarding customer service, SEAC has a rather average reputation. Unanswered emails from the Italian headquarters have been reported on forums. It is essential to go through an insistent dealer for any questions or problems. The dealer really acts as an intermediary. This point should be considered when making a purchase. The score of 3.6/5 represents good value for the features offered, but after-sales service may be a point of concern.
Who is this computer for?The SEAC Guru is a dive computer specifically designed for diving instructors and travelers. Its versatility, high-performance compass, and rechargeable battery make it an ideal tool to wear on your wrist all day, both underwater and at the surface. It's perfectly suited for divers at Level 2, Advanced, or Level 3 who practice underwater navigation, decompression using mixed gases (Nitrox), and even freediving. It's a great choice for those seeking a complete and reliable instrument for their explorations. However, this computer is not ideal for divers looking for a very large screen for visual comfort, or those who need Bluetooth connectivity to a smartphone for quick and wireless synchronization. It also does not support Trimix, which limits its use to recreational and light technical diving.
Service and SupportThe after-sales service of SEAC is an area that deserves special attention.
