Prepare to delve into the details of a machine designed to push the boundaries of safe underwater exploration.

Algorithm & Decompression

The inclusion of the Bühlmann ZHL-16C model elevates this device to a new level, finally meeting the expectations of serious divers. For years, technical divers have had to deal with proprietary algorithms that lacked transparency regarding deep dives.

The free Gradient Factors allow you to adjust both the low and high conservatism settings to precisely match your dive profile to those of your fellow divers.

This flexibility is such a significant advancement that it fundamentally changes how the device is perceived within the technical diving community.

The interface displays the decompression ceiling, total ascent time, and a very clear visual representation of tissue saturation levels.

There are no unnecessary alerts that could distract the diver during critical phases of the ascent.

The software reliability is excellent thanks to the latest major update, which has stabilized the entire calculation system.

The diver can still choose to use the Suunto Fused RGBM 2 if they prefer to stick with the historical algorithm from the Finnish brand.

Real-time tissue analysis allows you to adjust your ascent rate with a level of precision that greatly enhances safety during shallow stops.

This is a tool that requires a thorough understanding of decompression theory to be used effectively and safely.

Air & Multi-Gas

We are faced with a powerful machine for managing complex gas mixtures during deep expeditions. The system allows for the configuration of twenty different gas mixtures, with oxygen percentages ranging from 5 to 99 percent.

Helium management extends from 0 to 95 percent, covering all requirements for hypoxic trimix dives.

The native CCR mode manages fixed setpoints with surgical precision while seamlessly integrating bailout planning.

This adaptability, versatility, and comprehensiveness make it a formidable tool for closed-circuit rebreathers.

Switching between bottom gases and decompression gases is smooth, ensuring safe operation even under stress.

The device can connect to an impressive number of wireless transmitters to read up to twenty blocks simultaneously.

This air integration enables multi-block monitoring, which simplifies reserve management during dives with heavy equipment loads.

However, it's important to remember that these transmitters consume power and add a potential point of failure to the overall system.

Redundancy remains a golden rule that even the most advanced electronics can never completely replace underwater.

Screen & Ergonomics

The 2.4-inch color TFT display offers exceptional brightness, penetrating even the murkiest waters or the total darkness of underground environments. The physical ergonomics are based on three large buttons on the front panel, perfectly spaced for operation even with very thick waterproof gloves.

The display is so clear that even in zero visibility, essential information is immediately visible without any effort of adjustment.

The Suunto CustomDisplay software allows you to organize the data fields exactly according to your personal preferences and reading habits.

Navigation using only physical buttons is a deliberate choice that guarantees full operability in waters near freezing temperatures.

The absence of a touchscreen is a benefit for divers who operate in environments where mud and sand are prevalent.

The menus are structured logically to avoid getting lost in endless subfolders when making last-minute adjustments.

Visual alarms use distinct color codes that immediately attract attention without causing unnecessary panic.

The generous character size is a relief for divers whose near vision begins to decline with years of experience.

Every pixel on this screen has been designed to maximize the transfer of information between the device and the diver's brain in record time.

Battery Life

Power is provided by a massive rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery that provides between twenty and forty hours of dive time, depending on the settings. The intensive use of the screen at maximum brightness and the connection of multiple sensors will naturally reduce battery life.

Its performance in very cold water, below five degrees Celsius, remains excellent with a voltage that does not drop suddenly.

The charge indicator is reassuringly accurate, allowing you to plan your dives without fearing a complete power failure underwater.

Recharging is done via a proprietary USB cable, which you should be careful not to lose during your trips.

The choice of an internal, sealed battery guarantees perfect water resistance by avoiding any risky handling of O-rings by the user.

It is recommended to maintain the charge between twenty and eighty percent during extended storage periods to preserve the cells.

Energy management is optimized by a processor that puts the device into deep sleep mode as soon as it detects prolonged inactivity on the surface.

This generous battery life is a major asset for expeditions where access to a power source is limited or completely unavailable.

The reliability of this power source is the foundation upon which the safety of your decompression calculations rests during extreme dives.

Connectivity & App

Despite its rugged design and appearance as a metal block, this instrument fully benefits from the entire connected ecosystem developed by the manufacturer. The Bluetooth synchronization to the mobile dive log is remarkably fast, which greatly simplifies the end-of-day debriefing.

Firmware updates are easily performed via a standard computer using the dedicated SuuntoLink software.

Divers who enjoy analyzing their dive profiles in detail will appreciate the ability to export data in a standard format to platforms like Subsurface or MacDive.

This openness to third-party software demonstrates a desire to integrate with the habits of the technical community without imposing restrictions.

The mobile application offers a clean interface that allows you to view your dive profiles with clarity, aiding in their understanding.

Configuring the computer from your smartphone saves considerable time compared to navigating through the physical buttons.

The user community can share their dive sites and gas settings directly via the Finnish brand's cloud platform.

The stability of the wireless connection is remarkable and avoids the unexpected disconnections that are sometimes encountered with other models.

This is a successful combination of the robustness required for the underwater environment and the modernity expected by today's connected divers.

Compass & InstrumentsThe 3D inclination-compensated digital compass is a true industry standard, offering impressive responsiveness underwater.

It can be displayed full-screen for clear navigation or as a discreet overlay to keep an eye on your heading during decompression.

This is a major advantage when performing complex ascents in caves or exploring large wrecks in detail.

The temperature sensor displays highly accurate data that helps anticipate body cooling during long decompressions.

The lack of a freediving mode is purely incidental for this market segment, which is exclusively aimed at heavily equipped divers.

A simple depth gauge mode is, of course, included for those who use dive tables or want it as a backup instrument.

Calibrating the compass takes only seconds and maintains its accuracy even when the device is tilted significantly on your wrist.

The virtual wind rose is extremely readable and allows you to lock in a heading with a visual alarm if your trajectory deviates.

The absolute pressure sensors react to even the smallest changes in depth to adjust decompression calculations in real time.

Integrating these measuring instruments into a single unit frees up space on the already crowded forearms of technical divers.

Durability & Depth RatingThis metal housing is designed to be virtually indestructible against mechanical stresses in confined environments.

The casing skillfully combines brushed stainless steel and a reinforced polymer that absorbs impacts from rocks or rusted metal sheets.

The screen is protected by Xensation glass, which offers extreme resistance to impacts and scratches inevitably encountered during diving.

The device is certified to operate optimally up to one hundred fifty meters deep, covering the vast majority of needs.

Weighing 347 grams, the density of the materials is immediately noticeable and confirms the extreme purpose of this measuring instrument.

The casing design avoids recesses where salt and sediment could accumulate and eventually block the buttons.

The attachments for the bungee-style elastic strap are massive and unlikely to fail under tension when putting on the equipment.

This is a piece of equipment that inspires absolute confidence from the first time you hold it, and it's designed to withstand even the harshest conditions.

The black brushed stainless steel finish gives it a stealthy appearance that masks minor scratches that will inevitably appear over time.

The pressure resistance of this casing is the result of Finnish engineering that makes no compromises on structural safety.

Price & Customer SupportPriced around a thousand euros, this device directly competes with leading technical market brands like the Shearwater Perdix 2.

This high price is justified by the impeccable build quality and the comprehensiveness of the software suite, which leaves nothing to chance.

The manufacturer's European network is strong and ensures easy availability of spare parts in our Western countries.

The resale value on the second-hand market generally remains very good for this type of equipment, which is highly sought after by progressing divers.

Accessories such as charging cables and screen protectors are easily found at most specialized retailers.

The cost of wireless transmitters will be added to the final bill if you want to fully exploit the air management capabilities.

This is a purchase that requires careful consideration in the long term and accompanies the diver's evolution towards increasingly demanding practices.

The peace of mind offered by equipment of this caliber is invaluable when diving at depths where errors are not tolerated.

It is the ideal tool for instructors who demand a custom configuration and perfect multi-gas redundancy to ensure safe dives.

The preparation, planning, and execution of complex dives will find a reliable ally that won't fail under pressure.

Cavers will particularly appreciate the integrated compass and the case's resistance to the harshness of rocky environments.

Underwater photographers who perform long decompression stops will find unparalleled ease of reading for monitoring their parameters.

Conversely, recreational divers will likely find this device too heavy and unnecessarily complex for casual dives.

Travelers who are meticulous about minimizing weight in their luggage should consider watch-style models that are much more suitable for their needs.

Its physical size is designed to be worn on a drysuit and will appear disproportionately large on a thin tropical wetsuit.

Beginners risk being overwhelmed by the mass of technical information they may not yet understand, which could lead to confusion.

It is best to solidify your basic skills with a simpler instrument before attempting to manage gradient factors and multiple gases.

However, special attention must be paid to firmware management, which has sometimes been problematic on certain models in the past.

It is essential to always update the device via the dedicated software before starting any series of dives, especially those that are deep or remote.

This strict adherence to software maintenance is key to ensuring the flawless operation of the decompression algorithms underwater.

Warranty replacements are usually handled seriously but may involve unavoidable delays depending on your geographic location.

Troubleshooting often takes place remotely through dive logs extracted by the application, which speeds up the decision-making process.

Authorized repair centers have the necessary tools to test the watertightness of the housings after any major technical intervention.

Communication with customer support is facilitated by online platforms that allow you to track the progress of your repair case.

It's always frustrating to be without your equipment during peak season, but safety requires no compromises when it comes to electronics.

The brand's reputation rests on its ability to keep older models in operational condition for many years.## Power Supply

Choosing a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery fundamentally changes power management during extended trips away from shore.

On cruises, it is essential to establish a strict charging routine to avoid having a black screen when preparing to enter the water.

A capacity of twenty to forty hours provides a comfortable margin that allows for several days of diving without risking running out of power.

The use of multiple wireless transmitters for air management will draw more power from this internal battery.

It is always advisable to keep a mechanical pressure gauge as a backup in case of any electronic failure or unexpected signal loss.

A full recharge takes a few hours and integrates perfectly into the rest periods between dives or during the night on the boat.

Divers who are accustomed to user-replaceable batteries will need to adapt their habits and plan for external backup batteries.

Lithium-Ion technology offers a very flat discharge curve, which maintains a constant screen brightness until the last percentages of power remain.

The natural aging of the cells will result in a gradual decrease in overall battery life after several hundred full charge cycles.

Replacement of the internal battery must always be performed by an authorized service center to ensure that the housing remains watertight.## Links to other models from the same brand
