Nauticam introduces the NA-Ninja TX housing- designed for Atomos Ninja TX, TX GO and RAW monitors. Discover this essential accessory for underwater videographers.
It makes an Atomos Ninja TX, TX GO or RAW monitor-recorder waterproof, allowing you to use it as an external video return during a dive. It connects to the camera housing or camera via an HDMI or SDI cable.
The TX is the top-of-the-line model, featuring SDI connectivity in addition to HDMI, and supports up to 8K/30p in ProRes RAW format. The TX GO and RAW models are limited to HDMI and record up to 6K/30p in ProRes RAW format. The RAW model does not have built-in Wi-Fi.
Approximately €2,800 (converted from $3,200) and available from retailers such as Backscatter. This price does not include the Atomos monitor itself, nor the necessary HDMI or SDI cables for connecting to the camera housing.
No. Most underwater videographers shoot very well using the rear screen of the housing. An external monitor becomes useful for more demanding productions, when working in a team, or with housings that don't have a viewfinder. In these cases, a larger and better-adjusted visual display significantly improves image interpretation in bright light.
There's a question I always ask when a student shows me their video setup, complete with monitors, arms, and accessories: does each piece truly enhance the image, or is it primarily there to provide reassurance? The new Nauticam housing for Atomos Ninja TX monitors addresses a real need, but only for a portion of divers who are filming.
The NA-Ninja TX makes the Atomos Ninja TX, TX GO, and RAW monitor-recorders waterproof. The TX model, the high-end option in the range, records up to 8K/30p in ProRes RAW and features an SDI connection in addition to HDMI. The TX GO and RAW models are limited to HDMI, with recording capabilities up to 6K/30p ProRes RAW, and the RAW model does not have built-in Wi-Fi.
The housing supports all three models with HDMI and SDI inputs, as well as HDMI-to-SDI and reverse configurations. It is controlled via buttons and a dial that replicate the touchscreen controls of the monitor. Like the rest of the Nauticam range, the construction is aluminum with an integrated vacuum leak detection system.
Available from retailers like Backscatter, this housing is priced at approximately €2,800 (converted from $3,200), excluding the monitor itself and any connecting cables.
An external monitor becomes truly useful in team productions, or when multiple people need to see the same video feed during filming, or in conditions of high brightness where the integrated screen on the housing becomes difficult to read. For a diver who is filming alone, with the intention of sharing footage on social media or for personal use, this investment generally doesn't make sense until you have mastered the basics of underwater videography.
The correct approach remains the same at every level of equipment: add a piece only when it solves a real problem encountered in the field, not just because it exists in the brand's catalog. The AquaExposure training program helps you identify the equipment that truly suits your diving style, before investing in additional accessories.
