Tecline Peanut 21 + Comfort Harness Review: What you really need to consider before buying
A buoyancy compensator (BCD) isn't good simply because it lists many technical features. It becomes useful when it stops occupying the diver's mind. The Tecline Peanut 21 + Comfort Harness falls into the category of asymmetric wing with high buoyancy and makes a specific promise: to serve a diving practice geared towards cold water, single heavy tank setups, advanced travel, and photography. This review is not a substitute for a trial, but it will help you understand exactly what this model offers and what problems it doesn't solve. [1]The question is less about whether this BCD is inherently good and more about verifying if it's compatible with your regulator, thermal protection, weight system, accessories, and skill level. As a backplate and wing system, this model separates the structure, harness, and wing. This modularity can accommodate progression, provided you verify the mounting, weighting, and wing size before changing configurations. [2] [3]
The Verdict in Summary
The Tecline Peanut 21 + Comfort Harness receives an overall AquaExposure score of 3.9/5. Its rating should be considered within its category and not used as a universal truth. Its strengths include: 21 kg buoyancy, set-up weight under 3 kg, stainless steel components, and two cylinder straps. Its main limitations are: no standard quick-release weights, textile specifications for the year of manufacture to be confirmed, and price in France to be confirmed. [1]

Detailed Analysis
G1 Buoyancy
The stated buoyancy is 21 kg, which is 46 lb. This volume should not be considered in isolation. It must account for the negative buoyancy of the complete configuration, including the tank, gas, wetsuit, weights, and accessories. An insufficient value can reduce comfort at the surface. An excessive value does not automatically make a dive safer. [4]
The Peanut 21 applies Tecline's asymmetrical geometry to a buoyancy of 21 kg. The set with harness weighs less than 3 kg, including an aluminum backplate, two tank straps, and stainless steel components. It is more suitable for lightweight sidemount or heavy single-tank configurations than the Peanut 16. Specific details regarding the shell design and the French price must be confirmed before commercial release. Based on this information, the Tecline Peanut 21 + Comfort Harness receives a G1 score of 4.5/5. Trim control and purging should be tested under the intended conditions, not just in a dry environment. [1]
G2 WeightingThe model does not include an integrated quick-release weight system in the described configuration, with a stated capacity of 0 kg. It includes 2 trim pockets. This distribution can help adjust buoyancy, but it does not replace proper weight management. Weights should always remain easily accessible and adjustable to suit the environment. [3]
The G2 score of 2.5/5 reflects the carrying capacity and logic of this model. Before purchasing, verify the actual functionality of the pockets with your own weights and your usual wetsuit.
G3 Storage
The Tecline Peanut 21 + Comfort Harness provides 0 storage pockets and 5 metal D-rings. The product description lists these attachments as premium stainless steel D-rings, sliders, and harness buckles. This information is important when carrying items such as a rebreather bailout bottle, a reel, a light or a housing. [1]
The G3 score of 3.2/5 does not evaluate the absolute volume of a pocket. It expresses the suitability between the available attachment points and accessories typically associated with cold water diving, heavy single-tank configurations, advanced travel, and underwater photography.
G4 Harness
The harness is described as a Comfort Harness + aluminum backplate + two tank straps. The product description mentions 3 adjustment axes. This is a useful indicator, but comfort also depends on your size, shoulder width, torso length, wetsuit, and how the tank sits on your back. [2]The G4 score of 4.7/5 indicates the potential for adjustment in this design. A test dive should confirm that the shoulder straps don't pull, the weight belt doesn't ride up, and the controls remain accessible when the BCD is inflated.
G5 Materials
The stated weight is 2.9 kg, and the construction is described as a durable double-layer (the exact material needs to be confirmed depending on the model year). The D-rings are made of metal. These features suggest expected durability, resistance to wear and tear, and ease of transport, but they alone cannot guarantee the longevity of a specific unit. [1]
The G5 score of 5.0/5 reflects this assessment of the materials. The actual condition of a used BCD, including any servicing, inflators, and purge valves, must be checked independently of the model year or brand reputation.
G6 Versatility
The configuration is advertised for cold water use, single-tank heavy setups, advanced travel, and underwater photography, with potential uses in warm, temperate, and cold waters. The specifications indicate no declared compatibility with twin-tank configurations and no declared sidemount compatibility. Therefore, in this configuration, it is not suitable for twin-tank or sidemount diving. [1]
The G6 score of 3.5/5 expresses its ability to adapt to different uses without implying that a single model is suitable for everything. A transition to more technical diving may require a different system rather than simply adding accessories.
What you need to know before buying:The first check concerns buoyancy. With a declared buoyancy of 21 kg, the Tecline Peanut 21 + Comfort Harness needs to be adjusted to your actual configuration. A thicker wetsuit, a steel tank, saltwater, a housing or a light can significantly change the required buoyancy. The right decision starts with a buoyancy check at the end of the dive, not based on a general rule. [4]
The second check concerns comfort. This model features a Comfort Harness + aluminum backplate + two cylinder straps. Wear it with your usual thermal protection and then check underwater the breathing effort, access to purge valves, the direct-system functionality, and the position of the cylinder. A poorly fitted BCD adds a mental burden that the diver should be dedicating to the environment and their buddy. [2]
The third check is about usability. As a backplate and wing system, this model separates the structure, the harness, and the wing. This modularity can support progression, provided you verify the assembly, weighting, and wing size before changing configurations. The identified qualities – 21 kg buoyancy, set weight under 3 kg, stainless steel components, two cylinder straps – should be weighed against the limitations: no standard quick-release weights, textile specifications need to be confirmed, and the price in France needs confirmation. The indicative average price of €624 for 2026 is a point of comparison, but never a safety criterion.## Secondary Visual Focus: Detail of the Comfort Harness + aluminum backplate + two cylinder straps and metal D-rings from the Tecline Peanut 21 + Comfort Harness. Safety Reminder
The stated buoyancy, price, and rating do not replace a test dive, a weight check, or appropriate training. Any modification to the cylinder, wetsuit, weights, or accessories requires re-verifying the configuration. For high-buoyancy asymmetric backplate + wing systems, it is essential to understand the equipment before entrusting it with responsibilities that it cannot handle alone. [2] [3] [4]
Our Verdict
The Tecline Peanut 21 + Comfort Harness is suitable for cold water, heavy single cylinders, advanced travel, and photography when the user's morphology, weighting, and environment match the specifications. Its advantages include: 21 kg buoyancy, a set weight of under 3 kg, stainless steel components, and two cylinder straps. Its limitations remain: no standard quick-release weights, textile specifications need to be confirmed, and the price in France needs to be verified. Therefore, the best purchase is not based on the highest rating, but on choosing a configuration that is understandable, comfortable, and sized appropriately for the type of diving you will actually be doing.
