Tusa Conquest II BC-0201 Test: What you really need to consider before buying it
A buoyancy compensator (BCD) isn't good simply because it lists many technical features. It becomes useful when it stops being a distraction for the diver. The Tusa Conquest II BC-0201 is in the category of premium jacket-style BCDs and makes a specific promise: to serve advanced recreational diving, cold water conditions, and training. This guide doesn't replace a hands-on trial, but it helps you understand exactly what this model offers and what limitations it may have. [1]
The key question isn't whether this BCD is inherently good, but rather whether it suits your regulator, thermal protection, weighting system, accessories, and skill level. As a jacket-style BCD, this model prioritizes volume distributed around the torso. Therefore, you need to verify while diving that this design doesn't restrict breathing and that the surface position remains comfortable. [2] [3]
The verdict in summaryThe Tusa Conquest II BC-0201 receives an overall AquaExposure score of 3.8/5. This rating should be considered within its category and not used as a universal standard. Its strengths include generous buoyancy (45 lbs), durable 840D Cordura material, integrated trim pockets, and Tusa's reliability. Its main limitations are mixed D-rings (2 made of resin), being heavy (3.4 kg), and having a classic jacket design. [1]

Detailed Analysis
G1 Buoyancy
The stated buoyancy is 20.4 kg, which is 45 lbs. This value should not be considered in isolation. It covers the negative buoyancy of the complete configuration, including the tank, gas, wetsuit, weights, and accessories. An insufficient value can reduce comfort at the surface. An excessive value does not automatically make a dive safer. [4]The Conquest II is Tusa's high-end buoyancy compensator jacket. It offers generous buoyancy (45 lbs), features durable 840D Cordura construction, and includes trim pockets. It has mixed D-rings: 3 in stainless steel + 2 in resin. Important for underwater photography. A very good choice for regular divers in temperate waters. This review gives the Tusa Conquest II BC-0201 a G1 score of 4.3/5. Trim and purge control must be performed under the intended conditions, not just on dry land. [1]
G2 Weighting System
The model features a weight release system with a stated capacity of 9 kg. It includes 2 trim pockets. This distribution can help adjust buoyancy, but it does not replace proper weighting checks. Weights should always remain easily accessible and adjustable to the environment. [3]
The G2 score of 4.3/5 reflects the capacity and logical design of this model's weight system. Before purchasing, verify the actual function of the pockets with your own weights and your usual wetsuit.
G3 Storage
The Tusa Conquest II BC-0201 provides 2 storage pockets and 5 mixed D-rings. The specifications describe these attachments as 3 stainless steel D-rings + 2 resin D-rings. This information is important when carrying items such as a surface marker buoy, a reel, a light or a housing. [1]
The G3 score of 4.0/5 does not evaluate the absolute volume of a pocket. It expresses the suitability between the available attachment points and accessories typically used for advanced recreational diving, cold water conditions, or training.
G4 HarnessThe harness is described as having adjustable APA straps. The specifications mention three adjustment points. This is a useful indicator, but comfort also depends on your size, shoulder width, torso length, wetsuit, and how the tank sits on your back. [2]
The G4 score of 3.8/5 reflects the potential for adjustability in this design. A test dive should confirm that the straps don't pull, the waistband doesn't ride up, and the controls remain accessible when the BCD is inflated.
G5 Materials
The stated weight is 3.4 kg, and the construction is specified as 840D/420D nylon. The D-rings are made of a composite material. These details indicate expected durability, resistance to wear and tear, and ease of transport, but they alone cannot determine the longevity of a specific unit. [1]
The G5 score of 4.0/5 reflects this assessment of the materials used. The actual condition of a used BCD, including any servicing, inflators, and purge valves, should be checked independently of the year it was manufactured or the brand's reputation.
G6 Versatility
The configuration is advertised for advanced recreational diving, cold water use, and training, with potential applications in warm, temperate, and cold waters. The specifications indicate no declared compatibility with twin-tank setups and no declared sidemount compatibility. Therefore, its actual versatility is limited to single-tank configurations in this setup. [1]The G6 score of 2.5/5 indicates its ability to adapt to changes in diving practices, but it doesn't suggest that one model is suitable for everyone. An evolution towards a more technical style of diving may require a different system rather than simply adding accessories.
What you need to know before buying
The first check concerns buoyancy. With a declared buoyancy of 20.4 kg, the Tusa Conquest II BC-0201 needs to be tested with your actual equipment configuration. A thicker wetsuit, a steel tank, saltwater, a housing, or a light can significantly change the required buoyancy. The right decision starts with checking your weighting at the end of a dive, not by following a general rule. [4]
The second check concerns comfort. This model features adjustable APA straps. Wear it with your usual thermal protection and then, while submerged, check your breathing, access to purge valves, the direct-system functionality, and the position of the tank. A poorly fitted vest adds mental strain that the diver should be dedicating to their surroundings and their dive buddy. [2]The third check is regarding its usability. As a wrap-around jacket, this model prioritizes a volume distributed around the torso. Therefore, it's important to verify underwater that this design doesn't restrict breathing and that the surface position remains comfortable. The identified qualities – generous buoyancy of 45 lbs, durable 840D Cordura material, integrated trim pockets, Tusa reliability – should be weighed against its limitations: mixed D-rings (2 made of resin), weight (3.4 kg), and a classic jacket design. The average indicative price of €529 in 2026 is a point of comparison, but never a safety criterion.
Safety Reminder
The stated buoyancy, price, and rating do not replace a trial dive, a weight check, or appropriate training. Any modification to the tank, wetsuit, weights, or accessories requires rechecking the entire configuration. For a premium wrap-around jacket, the correct approach is to understand the equipment before entrusting it with responsibilities that it cannot handle alone. [2] [3] [4]
Our VerdictThe Tusa Conquest II BC-0201 is suitable for advanced recreational diving, cold water conditions, and training, provided the user's build, weighting, and environment match the specifications. Its advantages include generous buoyancy (45 lbs), durable 840D Cordura material, integrated trim pockets, and the reliability of the Tusa brand. However, its limitations are mixed D-rings (2 made of resin), a relatively heavy weight (3.4 kg), and a traditional jacket design. Therefore, making the right purchase isn't about choosing the highest-rated product, but rather selecting a configuration that is understandable, comfortable, and appropriately sized for the type of diving you will actually be doing.
