Zeagle Zena (women's) Review: What You Really Need to Consider Before Buying
A BCD isn't good simply because it lists technical features. It becomes useful when it stops occupying the diver's mind. The Zeagle Zena (women's) falls into the category of adjustable women's back-inflate BCDs and makes a specific promise: to serve a diving practice focused on women's leisure activities, travel, temperate water, and comfort. This sheet is not a substitute for a trial, but it allows you to know exactly what the model offers and what problems it doesn't solve. [1]
The question isn't whether this BCD is performant in an absolute sense, but rather whether it suits your tank, thermal protection, weighting, accessories, and skill level. As a back-inflate model, this design places buoyancy in the back. It can free up the torso and support a more horizontal trim, but its stability on the surface must be tested with actual weights. [2] [3]
The Verdict: In SummaryThe Zeagle Zena (women's) receives an overall AquaExposure score of 4.0/5. This rating should be considered within its category and not used as a universal truth. Its key features include: women's fit, dual waistbands, 4 stainless steel D-rings, a 10.9 kg lift bag + 7.3 kg trim weight, and 1050D ballistic nylon. Its main limitations are: buoyancy to be confirmed based on size/year of manufacture, variable availability in the EU, and no technical compatibility. [1]

Detailed Analysis
G1 BuoyancyThe stated buoyancy is 14 kg, which is equivalent to 31 lb. This value should not be considered in isolation. It must account for the negative buoyancy of the complete configuration, including the tank, gas, wetsuit, weights, and accessories. An insufficient value can reduce comfort at the surface. Conversely, an excessive value does not automatically make a dive safer. [4]
The Zena is the Zeagle women's back-inflate BCD: It features an anatomical design, two belts that position the weight under the waist, 4 stainless steel D-rings, a 10.9 kg inflation bladder, and a rear trim of 7.3 kg. This is a particularly interesting option when a good fit is prioritized over absolute lightness. The observed buoyancy values vary by model year and size, ranging from 31 to 34 lb: this should be confirmed at the time of purchase. Based on these specifications, the Zeagle Zena (women's) receives a G1 score of 3.7/5. Proper trim and purge control must be checked under actual diving conditions, not just in a dry environment. [1]
G2 Weighting System
The model features a quick-release weighting system with a stated capacity of 10.9 kg. It includes 2 trim pockets. This distribution can help adjust buoyancy, but it does not replace proper weight assessment. Weights should always remain easily accessible and adjustable to suit the environment. [3]
The G2 score of 4.7/5 reflects the carrying capacity and logical design of this model. Before purchasing, verify the actual functionality of the pockets with your own weights and your usual wetsuit.
G3 StorageThe Zeagle Zena (women's) buoyancy compensator features two storage pockets and four metal D-rings. The product description details these attachments as stainless steel D-rings. This information is important when carrying a drogue, a reel, a light or a housing. [1]
The G3 score of 3.5/5 does not evaluate the absolute volume of a pocket. It expresses the suitability between the available attachment points and accessories typically associated with women's recreational use, travel, temperate water diving, and comfort.
G4 Harness
The harness is described as having an anatomical women's fit, double straps, and a Ripcord system. The product description mentions three adjustment axes. This is a useful indicator, but comfort also depends on the size, shoulder width, torso length, wetsuit, and how the tank sits on the back. [2]
The G4 score of 4.8/5 reflects the potential for adjustability in this design. A test dive should verify that the straps do not pull, that the waistband does not ride up, and that the controls remain accessible when the buoyancy compensator is inflated.
G5 Materials
The declared weight is 2.8 kg, and the construction is specified as 1050D ballistic nylon. The D-rings are made of metal. These details indicate expected durability, resistance to wear and tear, and ease of transport, but they alone do not guarantee the longevity of a specific unit. [1]The G5 score of 4.5/5 reflects this assessment. The actual condition of a used BCD- its servicing history, inflators, and purge valves - must be checked independently of the year it was manufactured or the brand's reputation.
G6 Versatility
The configuration is advertised for recreational use by women, travel, temperate waters, and comfort, with potential uses in warmer conditions. The specifications indicate no declared compatibility with twin-tank setups and no declared sidemount compatibility. Therefore, its actual range of use is neither twin-tank nor sidemount within this configuration. [1]
The G6 score of 2.5/5 expresses its ability to adapt to changes in diving practice, but it does not suggest that one model is suitable for everything. A transition towards technical diving may require a different system rather than simply adding accessories.
What you need to know before buying
The first check concerns buoyancy. With a declared buoyancy of 14 kg, the Zeagle Zena (women's model) must be tested with your actual configuration. A thicker wetsuit, a steel tank, saltwater, a housing, or a light can significantly change the required buoyancy. The right decision starts with checking your weighting at the end of a dive, not by following a general rule. [4]The second check concerns comfort. This model is advertised as having a women's anatomical fit- double straps + Ripcord. Wear it with your usual thermal protection, then check underwater the breathing effort, access to purge valves, the direct system, and the position of the tank. A poorly fitted BCD adds a mental burden that the diver should be dedicating to the environment and their buddy. [2]
The third check is usability. Like a back-inflate model, this one places buoyancy in the back. It can free up the upper body and support a more horizontal trim, but its stability on the surface must be tested with the actual weight system. The listed features - women's fit, double straps, 4 stainless steel D-rings, Ripcord 10.9 kg + trim 7.3 kg, 1050D ballistic nylon - should be weighed against the limitations: Buoyancy to be confirmed depending on size/year of manufacture, Availability in the EU may vary, No technical compatibility. The average indicative price of €549 in 2026 is a point of comparison- never a safety criterion.
Safety ReminderThe advertised buoyancy, price, and rating do not replace a real-world test dive, a proper weight check, or appropriate training. Any modification to the tank, wetsuit, weights, or accessories should lead to rechecking the entire configuration. For adjustable women's back-inflate systems, the correct approach is to understand the equipment before entrusting it with responsibilities that it cannot handle alone. [2] [3] [4]
Our Verdict
The Zeagle Zena (women's) is suitable for recreational diving for women, travel, and temperate waters, offering comfort when the user's body type, weighting, and environment match the specifications. Its advantages include a women's fit, double waist belts, 4 stainless steel D-rings, a 10.9 kg buoyancy compensator with a 7.3 kg trim weight, and ballistic nylon (1050D). Its limitations are that the actual buoyancy needs to be confirmed based on size/model year, availability in the EU varies, and there is no technical compatibility. Therefore, making the right purchase doesn't involve simply choosing the highest-rated product, but rather selecting a configuration that is understandable, comfortable, and appropriately sized for the type of diving you will actually be doing.
