What to know before you buyAcquiring a high-end dive mask like the Tusa Paragon S M-1007 requires careful attention to several technical parameters outlined in the analysis. The single-lens design, combined with a robust frame, results in a slightly larger internal volume compared to smaller freediving masks. This characteristic means that divers may need some practice or adjustment to easily perform mask clearing maneuvers while underwater.
The absence of permanent anti-fog treatment on the inner surface of the CrystalView lenses necessitates a thorough preparation step before the first use. Divers must carefully degrease the lenses to remove any manufacturing residue and prevent fogging during initial dives.
The high price point of this model means it's essential to ensure that the investment aligns precisely with the intended underwater activities, whether it's maximizing the durability of the Tri-Mix frame or benefiting from the sun protection and anti-reflective properties of the optical lenses.
Trying on the mask before purchase: The most important factor. This comparison helps you to compare the different models. However, it cannot tell you whether a mask is suitable for your face. Before purchasing, place the mask on your face without the strap, inhale gently through your nose, and check that it stays in place on its own, without any pressure points or leaks. This step represents more than 80% of the actual importance of your purchase. If the skirt doesn't fit your facial structure, no ultra-clear lens, anti-fog treatment, or buckle system will compensate for the problem.
Safety Reminder
Safety in scuba diving relies on clear and constant visual communication with your buddy or dive team. Facial expressions, glances, and conventional hand signals exchanged through the mask are vital cues in case of an unexpected situation.
The choice of lens type should be made with a full understanding of the diving conditions. Lenses with anti-reflective coatings or UV protection filters, such as the UV 420 system, help maintain visual comfort both on the surface and underwater. It is important not to confuse these clear technical lenses with mirror, tinted, or dark variants that reduce light transmission in dimly lit environments.
Our VerdictThe Tusa Paragon S M-1007 represents a remarkable technical achievement for divers seeking robustness and optical clarity. Its Tri-Mix frame and CrystalView lenses, treated for enhanced performance, are strong selling points for demanding use. However, its high price and the need for a thorough fit test remind us that the value of a mask is first and foremost determined by how well it fits the user's face.
Maintenance and Lifespan
Maintaining the optical and mechanical qualities of the Tusa Paragon S M-1007 requires methodical care after each dive in marine environments. A thorough rinsing with lukewarm fresh water is essential to remove salt crystals, sand particles, and organic residues that can accumulate in the silicone skirt or around the Quick-Adjust buckles.
Storage should be done away from direct sunlight and excessive heat sources to prevent premature yellowing and loss of flexibility in the silicone. Using the rigid protective case provided is highly recommended during transport to protect the Tri-Mix frame and avoid any accidental scratches on the CrystalView lenses.
Other models from the brand to compareThe manufacturer's catalog offers other models that allow you to refine your choice based on budget and ergonomic preferences. The Tusa Freedom Elite M-1003 is an interesting alternative for recreational single-lens diving, featuring the Freedom technology and rotating buckles for accessible comfort. For divers who prefer a dual-lens design, the Tusa Paragon M-2001 builds upon the solid foundation of the Tri-Mix frame and incorporates AR and UV 420 treated CrystalView optics in a two-window configuration.
