Goal Zero Venture 75: The waterproof power bank for extreme photographers

On the deck of a dive boat swept by spray, during transfers in a Zodiac, and while preparing equipment in tropical humidity, power management quickly becomes a source of stress. For an underwater photographer, the question is not only whether their battery has enough milliampere-hours, but also whether it will survive the next wave or be handled with wet hands. It is in this context that the Goal Zero Venture 75 finds its place, prioritizing the durability of the equipment as much as its performance.

The main feature of this model is its ability to ignore the elements. While most power banks fear even the smallest drop of saltwater, the Venture 75 boasts an IP67 certification. It is completely dustproof and can withstand immersion in water up to one meter for thirty minutes [1]. This protection is based on a robust housing and a thick rubber cap that seals the ports. It's important to understand that this level of protection depends on the user's diligence. If the cover remains open during rain or if salt residue prevents it from closing, the protection is lost. The connectors are then exposed to rapid oxidation in the marine environment. For divers using small boats, this level of security provides valuable peace of mind, transforming a fragile accessory into a field tool that can remain in a damp bag without risk.

Under its protection, the Venture 75 houses NMC lithium-ion 18650 cells selected from LG Chem [2]. With a capacity of 19,200 mAh (71.04 Wh), it offers a balance between compactness and energy reserve. Its bidirectional USB-C Power Delivery port delivers up to 60W output, sufficient to power smartphones, tablets, and laptops like the MacBook Air.

Two USB-A ports, regulated at 15W, complement the system, allowing you to charge three devices simultaneously. The pass-through function allows the battery to be recharged while powering connected devices, a useful option on boats where outlets are limited. The device also includes a 50-lumen backup light, which is handy for searching a bag in the darkness of a cabin.

The transport of lithium batteries is strictly prohibited in the cargo hold. The Venture 75 must always be carried in carry-on luggage. It is recommended to check the allowed quotas with your airline before departure. A battery that complies with the specifications is only compliant if it meets the verification conditions imposed at the time of travel. It is the responsibility of each traveler to ensure that their equipment meets local requirements.

Another strength of this model is its integration into the brand's solar ecosystem. The Venture 75 works optimally with the Nomad solar panels [1]. In full sunlight, a Nomad 20 panel can recharge the battery in six to eleven hours. For a diver on a remote expedition or on a sailboat with limited electrical resources, this ability to convert light into energy is a strategic advantage.

If your diving involves trips in zodiac boats or stays on more basic vessels, this battery is a logical choice. It provides power for hybrid camera housings and action cameras between dives. It's a reliable tool for those who prioritize robustness and waterproofing, even if it's heavier than urban models.

The Venture 75 has certain limitations. Its 60W output on the USB-C port can be a constraint when used with high-performance computers for intensive video editing. On a heavily used MacBook Pro, the battery may slow down the discharge rate, but the recharge will be slow. It's best used with less demanding devices or to charge computers that are turned off.

Temperature management is crucial. Designed to operate between 0 and 45°C, the device loses efficiency in extreme cold and can overheat in direct sunlight. Remember that the IP67 waterproofing is a protection against accidents, not an invitation for underwater use. The cap should be checked regularly to prevent any cracks or dirt that could compromise its function.

By accepting the weight limitations imposed by its housing, you gain essential reliability at sea. AquaExposure's ratings place this model among the most robust options for outdoor use, a benchmark based on the real-world needs of divers. When you're about to board the inflatable boat, knowing that your power reserve is protected from the waves allows you to focus on the light and the moments you want to capture.

To ensure your underwater photography equipment functions flawlessly, proper battery management is crucial. Lithium batteries, commonly used in cameras and strobes, require special attention.

Always check the manufacturer's guidelines for your specific equipment. Some devices may have specific battery requirements or limitations.

When transporting lithium batteries, it's essential to follow all applicable regulations. These regulations are in place to prevent potential hazards during air travel.

* Power Banks: Portable power banks like the [Goal Zero Venture 75][1] can be invaluable for extending your shooting time. However, it's vital to adhere to airline regulations regarding lithium battery transport. Consult the [Goal Zero Venture 75 User Guide][2] for specific instructions. Always protect batteries from physical damage.

* Airline Regulations: The International Air Transport Association (IATA) provides guidelines on transporting lithium batteries [IATA Lithium Batteries Guide][4]. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also has specific regulations regarding lithium batteries [FAA PackSafe Lithium Batteries][4]. Familiarize yourself with these regulations before your trip.

* Battery Safety: Never leave lithium batteries exposed to extreme temperatures. Avoid short-circuiting them. Always use the correct charger for your batteries.

Remember that compliance with these guidelines is essential for the safety of yourself and others. Improper handling of lithium batteries can pose a fire risk.
