What is the approximate average price for the Oceanic Excursion in 2026?
The average indicative price for 2026 is €624, calculated from a new retail range of €549 to €699. This figure is not a real-time selling price.
What is the buoyancy offered by the Oceanic Excursion?
The consolidated datasheet indicates a buoyancy of 23.6 kg or 52 lbs. This value should be compared to the actual weight added for weights, tanks, thermal protection, and accessories being used.
Who is this model best suited for?
The Oceanic Excursion is designed for cold water diving, large equipment setups, heavy photography rigs, and advanced recreational use. It's recommended for intermediate to advanced divers, primarily in temperate or cold waters.
What should you check before making a purchase?
You need to check the harness, access to the dump valves, weight distribution, fit, condition of the D-rings, and how the BCD performs with all your gear attached.

Oceanic Excursion Test: What you really need to consider before buying it.
A buoyancy compensator (BCD) isn't good simply because it lists many technical features. It becomes useful when it stops occupying the diver's mind. The Oceanic Excursion belongs to the high-buoyancy backplate BCD category and makes a specific promise: to serve a diving practice geared towards cold water, large equipment setups, heavy photo gear, and advanced recreational diving. This article is not a substitute for a hands-on trial, but it will help you understand exactly what this model offers and what problems it doesn't solve. [1]
The question isn't whether this BCD is inherently good, but rather whether it suits your tank, thermal protection, weighting system, accessories, and skill level. As a backplate BCD, this model places buoyancy in the diver's back. It can free up the torso and support a more horizontal trim, but its surface stability must be tested with actual weights. [2] [3]
The verdict in summaryThe Oceanic Excursion receives an overall AquaExposure score of 4.4/5. Its rating should be considered within its category and not used as a universal truth. Key features include: high buoyancy up to 52 lb, QLR4 weight system with rear trim, robust 1600D material, pre-curved stainless steel D-rings. Main limitations are: very heavy at 4.2 kg, the number of D-rings needs confirmation, and availability in the EU may vary. [1]

Detailed Analysis
G1 BuoyancyThe stated buoyancy is 23.6 kg, which is 52 lb. This value should not be considered in isolation. It must account for the negative buoyancy of the complete configuration, including the tank, gas, wetsuit, weights, and accessories. An insufficient value can reduce comfort at the surface. An excessive value does not automatically make a dive safer. [4]
The Oceanic Excursion is a large-volume back-inflate BCD: it offers 38 lb of buoyancy in sizes S/M/L and 52 lb in XL/XXL, with a QLR4 weight pocket capacity of 12 kg and up to 5 kg of rear trim adjustment. Its 1600D fabric and BioFlex bladder prioritize durability. It is heavy- a suitable choice for stability and carrying capacity, but not ideal for travel. This characteristic gives the Oceanic Excursion a G1 score of 4.7/5. Trim and purge control must be performed under actual diving conditions, not just in a dry environment. [1]
G2 Weighting System
The model features a quick-release weighting system with a stated capacity of 12 kg. It includes 2 trim pockets. This distribution can help adjust buoyancy, but it does not replace proper weight assessment. Weights should always remain easily accessible and adjustable to suit the environment. [3]
The G2 score of 4.8/5 reflects the carrying capacity and logical design of this model. Before purchasing, verify the actual function of the pockets with your own weights and your usual wetsuit.
G3 StorageThe Oceanic Excursion features 2 storage pockets and 6 metal D-rings. The specifications describe these attachments as stainless steel D-rings that are welded and pre-curved, with the exact number to be confirmed depending on size/model year. This information is important when carrying a buoyancy compensator (BCD), a reel, a light or a camera housing. [1]
The G3 score of 4.5/5 does not evaluate the absolute volume of a pocket. It expresses the suitability between the attachment points and the accessories typically associated with cold water use, large sizes, heavy photography equipment, and advanced recreational diving.
G4 Harness
The harness is described as having a depth-compensating cummerbund, reinforced shoulder straps, and a padded back. The specifications mention 3 adjustment axes. This is a useful indicator, but comfort also depends on the size, shoulder width, torso length, wetsuit thickness, and how the tank sits on your back. [2]
The G4 score of 4.5/5 reflects the potential for adjustment in this design. A test dive should verify that the straps do not pull, that the waist belt does not ride up, and that the controls remain accessible when the BCD is inflated.
G5 Materials
The declared weight is 4.2 kg, and the construction is specified as 1600D nylon with a BioFlex bladder. The D-rings are made of metal. These details indicate the expected durability, resistance to wear and tear, and ease of transport, but they alone do not guarantee the longevity of a specific unit. [1]The G5 score of 5.0/5 reflects this construction assessment. The actual condition of a used BCD- its servicing history, inflators, and purge valves - must be checked independently of the year it was manufactured or the brand's reputation.
G6 Versatility
This configuration is advertised for cold water use, accommodating larger divers, heavy photo setups, and advanced recreational diving, with potential use in temperate waters as well. The specifications indicate no declared dual-tank compatibility and no declared sidemount compatibility. Therefore, its actual capabilities are neither dual-tank nor sidemount within this configuration. [1]
The G6 score of 3.0/5 expresses its ability to adapt to changes in diving practices, but it does not suggest that a single model is suitable for everyone. An evolution towards technical diving may require a different system rather than simply adding accessories.
What you need to know before buying
The first check concerns buoyancy. With a declared buoyancy of 23.6 kg, the Oceanic Excursion must be tested with your actual equipment configuration. A thicker wetsuit, a steel tank, saltwater, a housing, or a strobe can significantly alter the required buoyancy. The best approach starts with checking your weighting at the end of a dive, rather than relying on general rules. [4]The second check concerns comfort. This model boasts a depth-compensating cummerbund- reinforced shoulders- and a padded back. Wear it with your usual thermal protection, then check underwater the breathing ease, access to purge valves, the direct system functionality, and the position of the tank. A poorly fitted buoyancy vest adds mental strain that the diver should be dedicating to the environment and their dive buddy. [2]
The third check is usability. Like a back-inflate model, this one places the buoyancy control in the rear. It can free up the torso and support a more horizontal trim, but its stability on the surface must be tested with the actual weight. The listed features- high buoyancy capacity up to 52 lbs, QLR4 12 kg + rear trim, durable 1600D material, pre-curved stainless steel D-rings- should be considered alongside the limitations: very heavy at 4.2 kg, number of D-rings to be confirmed, and variable availability in the EU. The average indicative price of €624 for 2026 is a point of comparison, but never a safety criterion.
Safety ReminderThe advertised buoyancy, price, and rating do not replace a real-world test dive, proper weight adjustment, or appropriate training. Any modification to the tank, wetsuit, weights, or accessories should lead to rechecking the entire configuration. For high-buoyancy back-inflate systems, the key is to understand the equipment before entrusting it with responsibilities that it cannot handle alone. [2] [3] [4]
Our Verdict
The Oceanic Excursion is suitable for cold water, larger divers, heavy photo setups, and advanced recreational diving when the diver's physique, weighting, and environment match the specifications. Its advantages include high buoyancy up to 52 lb, a QLR4 12 kg rear weight system with trim adjustment, a robust 1600D material, and pre-curved stainless steel D-rings. However, its limitations are significant weight (4.2 kg), an unconfirmed number of D-rings, and variable availability in the EU. Therefore, the best purchase is not based on the highest rating but on choosing a configuration that is understandable, comfortable, and appropriately sized for the type of diving you will actually be doing.
