Tusa Tina (women's) Jacket Review: What You Really Need to Consider Before Buying
A buoyancy compensator doesn’t become good simply by adding up technical features. It becomes useful when it stops occupying the diver's mind. The Tusa Tina (women's) jacket falls into the category of women's jackets and makes a specific promise: to serve a practice oriented towards leisure, women's training, and travel. This sheet does not replace a trial, but it allows you to know exactly what the model offers and what problems it doesn't solve. [1]
The question is less about whether this BCD is performant in absolute terms than about verifying whether it suits your tank, your thermal protection, your weighting system, your accessories, and your progress. As a fitted jacket, this model prioritizes a volume distributed around the torso. Therefore, you need to check underwater that this enclosure does not restrict breathing and that the surface position remains comfortable. [2] [3]
The Verdict in SummaryThe Tusa Tina (women's) receives an overall AquaExposure score of 3.3/5. Its rating should be considered within its category and not used as a universal truth. Its strengths include women's-specific fit, OPEV system, Tusa reliability, and affordable price. Its main limitations are mixed resin D-rings, lack of trim pockets, and suitability primarily for warm water. [1]

Detailed Analysis
G1 Buoyancy
The stated buoyancy is 16.3 kg, which is 36 lb. This volume should not be considered in isolation. It represents the negative buoyancy of the complete configuration, including the tank, gas, wetsuit, weights, and accessories. An insufficient value can reduce comfort at the surface. An excessive value does not automatically make a dive safer. [4]The Tina is Tusa's leading women's BCD. It features a feminine anatomical fit, an OPEV (oral pressure equalization valve) system for deflation in any position, and 4 mixed D-rings. The D-rings are made of resin - a point to consider according to the Benjamin rule. Its buoyancy of 36 lbs is sufficient for warm water. Based on this assessment, the Tusa Tina (women's model) receives a G1 score of 3.5/5. Proper trim and purge control must be performed under actual diving conditions, not just in a dry environment. [1]
G2 Weighting System
The model features a quick-release weight system with a stated capacity of 8 kg. It includes 0 trim pockets. This configuration can help adjust buoyancy, but it does not replace proper weighting procedures. Weights should always be easily accessible and appropriate for the diving environment. [3]
The G2 score of 3.8/5 reflects the capacity and logical design of this model's weighting system. Before purchasing, verify the actual functionality of the weight pockets with your own weights and your usual wetsuit.
G3 Storage
The Tusa Tina (women's model) includes 2 storage pockets and 4 mixed D-rings. The specifications describe these attachment points as 2 stainless steel D-rings + 2 resin D-rings. This information is important when carrying items such as a dry bag, a reel, a light, or an underwater housing. [1]
The G3 score of 3.2/5 does not evaluate the absolute volume of a pocket. It expresses the suitability between the available attachment points and accessories commonly used for recreational diving, women's training, and travel.
G4 HarnessThe harness is described as having a women's anatomical fit with an OPEV (Open Plate Expansion Valve) system. The specifications mention 3 adjustment points. This is a useful indicator, but comfort also depends on the size, shoulder width, torso length, wetsuit thickness, and how the tank sits on your back. [2]
The G4 score of 4.0/5 reflects the potential for adjustability in this design. A test dive should confirm that the straps don't pull, the waistband doesn't ride up, and the controls remain accessible when the BCD is inflated.
G5 Materials
The stated weight is 2.6 kg, and the construction is listed as 500D/420D Cordura. The D-rings are made of a composite material. These details indicate expected durability, resistance to wear and tear, and ease of transport, but they alone cannot determine the longevity of a specific unit. [1]
The G5 score of 3.3/5 reflects this assessment of the materials used. The actual condition of a used BCD, including any servicing, inflators, and purge valves, should be checked independently of the year it was manufactured or the brand's reputation.
G6 Versatility
The configuration is advertised for recreational use, women's training, and travel, suitable for warm and temperate waters. The specifications indicate no declared compatibility with twin tanks and no declared sidemount compatibility. Therefore, in this configuration, its actual uses are limited to single-tank setups. [1]The G6 score of 2.0/5 indicates its ability to adapt to changes in diving practices, but it doesn't suggest that one model is suitable for everyone. A shift towards more technical diving may require a different system rather than simply adding accessories.
What you need to know before buying
The first check concerns buoyancy. With a declared buoyancy of 16.3 kg, the Tusa Tina (women's model) needs to be adjusted to your actual configuration. A thicker wetsuit, a steel tank, saltwater, a housing, or a light can significantly change the required buoyancy. The right decision starts with a buoyancy check at the end of the dive, not based on a general rule. [4]
The second check concerns comfort. This model advertises a women's anatomical fit + OPEV (Open-Back Plate Valve). Wear it with your usual thermal protection and then check in the water the breathing, access to purge valves, the direct system, and the position of the tank. A poorly fitting vest adds mental strain that the diver should be dedicating to the environment and their dive buddy. [2]The third check is regarding its usability. As a wrap-around jacket, this model prioritizes a volume distributed around the torso. It's important to verify underwater that this design doesn't restrict breathing and that the surface position remains comfortable. The identified qualities – women's anatomical fit, OPEV system, Tusa reliability, affordable price – should be weighed against its limitations: mixed resin D-rings, no trim pockets, primarily suitable for warm water. The average indicative price of €399 in 2026 is a point of comparison, but never a safety criterion.
Safety Reminder
The stated buoyancy, price, and rating do not replace a trial dive, a weight check, or appropriate training. Any modification to the tank, wetsuit, weights, or accessories requires re-verifying the configuration. For women's jackets, the correct approach is to understand the equipment before entrusting it with responsibilities that it cannot handle alone. [2] [3] [4]
Our VerdictThe Tusa Tina (women's model) is a good option for recreational diving, women's training, and travel when the user's body type, weighting requirements, and environment match the specifications. Its advantages include its anatomical design for women, OPEV system, Tusa reliability, and affordable price. However, its limitations include mixed resin D-rings, lack of trim pockets, and suitability primarily for warm water. Therefore, the best purchase isn't necessarily based on the highest score but on choosing a configuration that is understandable, comfortable, and appropriately sized for the type of diving you will actually be doing.
